Gemini Call for Me Explained: Gemini Phones Businesses For You

Gemini can now make a phone call on your behalf, talk to a real person in an AI voice, sit through the hold music and come back with an answer. Google documented it in the Gemini Apps Agentic Calling Additional Terms of Service, last modified September 24, 2026, and in a help article that spells out who gets it. Almost nobody does yet: the list of requirements runs to seven items and the first one is a Pixel 11.

Do You Get It? The Seven Requirements

All seven, not any of them. This is the full "What you need" list from Google's help article, read September 27, 2026:

On top of that, Google adds a rollout caveat in its own words: "We're gradually making this feature available to eligible users, so it might not be available to you just yet." So meeting all seven is necessary and still might not be enough today.

One more boundary, easy to miss: Gemini can only dial US numbers. Google states it flatly, as an "Important" note above the instructions: "For now, Gemini can only make phone calls to US phone numbers."

What "A Google AI Subscription" Means Here

Google has not said, and we are not going to guess. The help article requires "a Google AI subscription" and links to the generic upgrade page. Google's paid consumer tiers are Google AI Plus at $4.99, Google AI Pro at $19.99, and Google AI Ultra from $99.99 a month, per its subscriptions page read September 27, 2026 -- and that page's raw HTML contains no mention of calling, agentic calling, or phone calls on any tier. Google's plan comparison table has no row for it either.

Treat the tier as unconfirmed. If you are already paying for any Google AI plan, the other six requirements are the ones likely to stop you.

This Is Not The Same As Gemini Dialling A Number

Two different features with confusingly similar names, and only one of them is new or paid. Getting this wrong is the most likely reason someone thinks they already have this.

The second one has existed for a while and is free: you tell Gemini who to ring and it opens your dialler. The first one is the agent. If you have ever said "Hey Google, call Mum" and it worked, that was the free feature.

How It Actually Runs

Google documents the whole loop, and the part worth reading twice is the confirmation step before anything dials.

1. Ask. Open Gemini on your Pixel and describe the task. Google says you can also "explicitly include @Call for me in your prompt." Its own examples: "Call [Restaurant Name] and book a table for two at 7 PM tomorrow" and "Ask the dry cleaner on Main Street how much they charge to hem pants."
2. Approve what it will say. Google: "Review Gemini's summary of the task, including the number it will call and details it will share, like your name and contact info." The Privacy Hub is more explicit: "You must review this info and agree before Gemini will initiate the call."
3. Tap Call for me. Before it connects you can still tap Cancel.
4. Listen, or do not. The live transcript runs in the Gemini app and you can switch the live audio on. Your microphone is muted by default.
5. Take over if it goes wrong. Tapping Take over unmutes your mic, and "Gemini will announce that you're taking over and then leave the call."
6. Read the result. You get a notification, and tapping View results shows Gemini's summary. The full transcript and the recording sit in your Phone app's call history.

What It Refuses To Do

Four hard refusals in the help article, plus two more in the terms, and one of them rules out the use case a lot of people will try first.

That last row is the one to notice. "Book me a dentist appointment" is the obvious thing to ask an agent that can phone people, and Google's own Additional Terms put healthcare providers out of bounds by name. Restaurants, dry cleaners, garages and shops are the intended shape of this.

Google also declines to promise it works: "Google doesn't guarantee that the Feature will successfully complete every task, and isn't responsible for outcomes resulting from AI errors." And the carrier bill is yours: "You're responsible for any fees, overages, or charges from your mobile carrier."

Transcripts yes, audio no, training neither. Google's Privacy Hub added an agentic calling section that answers this directly.

How To Stop Gemini Calling You

This is the part that matters to everyone, including people who will never own a Pixel 11. Google runs a public opt-out at g.co/gemini/opt-out, which resolves to android.com/ai/gemini/calling-opt-out. We loaded it on September 27, 2026 and it is live.

It asks for a country (United States, +1), a phone number, and a six-digit one-time passcode sent by text -- "your number needs to be verified for opt-in/opt-out." It then shows your number as either Not on block list or On blocklist, with an Opt out and an Opt in button. Google's wording: "Once you opt out, your number will be added to a block list and you will no longer receive automated calls from Gemini."

Two things follow from that. You do not need a Google account or a Gemini subscription to use it. And the opt-in button exists, so a number you block can be unblocked later on the same page.

Is It Worth It?

Get it if you already pay for a Google AI plan, you own a Pixel 11 in the US, and the calls you dread are the ordinary ones: hold queues, opening hours, a table for two, a quote. That is precisely the job Google built it for, and the confirmation step means it cannot say something on your behalf you have not read first.

Skip it if you were hoping to offload medical or financial calls. Google's terms exclude both, and those are the calls that actually eat an afternoon.

Do not buy a phone for it. This is a gradual rollout of a US-only, English-only, one-handset feature with an unpublished daily cap. It is a preview with a terms page, not a finished product.

Do the opt-out anyway if the idea of a stranger's AI ringing your number bothers you. It takes a text message, and it is the only control in this whole story that does not need a Pixel.
