Apple Creator Studio AI Explained: Pages, Keynote and Numbers Get an Assistant, and It Is Not Free
Apple is putting an AI assistant inside Pages, Keynote and Numbers in November 2026, built on Apple models and OpenAI. The apps stay free; the assistant does not. It needs a $12.99-a-month Apple Creator Studio subscription, an Apple Intelligence device on iOS 27 or macOS 27, and U.S. English.

For most people, ChatGPT Plus at $20/month is the best-value paid chatbot. Choose Google AI Pro ($19.99) if you live in Google apps, or Claude Pro ($20, $17 on annual) if you mostly write and work with documents. Light users stay free, and college students should take Google's free year first.
Siri AI Explained: How to Get It, Who Is Locked Out, and What Apple Will Charge For
Apple's rebuilt Siri, called Siri AI, shipped on September 14, 2026 as a free beta in iOS 27, on every iPhone from the 15 Pro up. Since October 26, 2026 it works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English. It is still blocked in the EU on iPhone, in China, and under 13.
Apple spent 2026 saying it would charge for AI "in the future." It already does. On October 27, 2026 Apple announced an AI assistant for Pages, Keynote and Numbers that understands the document you are working in, and the price of using it is a $12.99-a-month Apple Creator Studio subscription. The apps are still free on every iPhone, Mac and iPad Apple sells. The assistant inside them is not.
Key Takeaways
- The assistant is subscriber-only. Apple's words: "Visual productivity apps receive a new generation of intelligence features for subscribers, including an intelligent assistant, built on Apple models and OpenAI, directly within Keynote, Pages, and Numbers."
- $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US, with a one-month free trial. Students and educators pay $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. Existing subscribers pay nothing extra.
- It ships in November 2026, with no day named. Apple says the updates "will be available on the App Store this November."
- It is US English only, and it needs iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 on an Apple Intelligence-capable device. Apple labels it a beta.
- The free apps keep working. Apple: "Free versions of Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform continue to be available and are included with every new iPhone, Mac, and iPad." They just do not get the assistant.
- OpenAI is inside Apple's office apps. Apple names OpenAI in the announcement, and its help centre already credits OpenAI for Keynote's Generate Presentation and Google Cloud for image and shape generation.
- The AI has monthly caps and Apple publishes the numbers for the features already shipped: 50 images, 250 shapes, 50 presentations, presenter notes for 700 slides.
- Logic Pro gets its own assistant and Pixelmator Pro gets Generate Fill, both under the same subscription.
What You Get, and What It Costs
Here is the split that decides whether any of this reaches you. Everything in the right column needs the subscription; nothing in the left column does.
| What you have | What you get | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Freeform on any new Apple device | The apps, free, as now | $0 |
| The same apps, plus the new assistant, image generation, Magic Fill, Slide Clean Up | Apple Creator Studio | $12.99/month or $129/year |
| The same, as a student or educator | Apple Creator Studio education rate | $2.99/month or $29.99/year |
| A new Mac or qualifying iPad bought from Apple or an authorised reseller | Three months of Apple Creator Studio | $0 for three months, then renews |
| Anyone starting fresh | One-month free trial | $0 for one month, then renews |
| Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro or Pixelmator Pro bought outright, once | The app, no subscription | $299.99 / $199.99 / $49.99 |
Up to six family members can share one subscription through Family Sharing, which is the cheapest route if more than one person in your house wants it. Apple's help page adds two conditions the press release leaves out: the Apple Account has to be a personal one, not a Managed Apple Account, and Family Sharing is not available on the student and educator rate.
What the Assistant Does in Each App
Apple describes three different jobs, one per app, and they are more specific than "AI features."
| App | What Apple says the assistant does |
|---|---|
| Keynote | "Helps with designing, animating, and refining slides" |
| Pages | "Drafts, restructures, and fine-tunes written content" |
| Numbers | "Calculates, visualizes, and organizes data; recommends suitable chart types with a one-tap preview; and builds custom tables using world knowledge" |
| Logic Pro (Mac) | A separate assistant that helps "navigate production workflows, start a new song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt, or refine an active project" |
The phrase doing the work in all of them is "understands document context." Apple is not describing a chat window bolted onto the side of Pages; it is describing an assistant that has read the file you have open.
There is a second feature in the same release that matters more than it sounds: Model Context Protocol support in Keynote, Pages and Numbers. Apple says it "enables external AI agents and tools to read content, perform edits, and execute automated actions" in those apps. In plain terms, another AI tool can be given permission to work on your Keynote deck directly. Apple's footnote restricts MCP to macOS 27 or later, so it is a Mac-only feature at launch.
Can You Actually Run It
Four conditions, all from Apple's own footnote, and all four have to be true:
- An Apple Creator Studio subscription. No subscription, no assistant.
- An Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later. On iPhone that means an iPhone 15 Pro or newer; our compatibility guide has the full device list.
- US English. Apple's footnote says the assistant "is available in U.S. English only." Not English generally. US English.
- November, at the earliest. The update is not out yet.
If you are outside the US or your device language is anything else, the honest answer today is that this is not for you yet, and Apple has published no date or list for other languages.
The Part Apple Published Before Today, and It Is the Useful Part
The assistant is new. Paid AI in Keynote, Pages and Numbers is not, and Apple's help centre has documented the existing version since September 29, 2026, with numbers the press release does not repeat. This is the best available guide to how the new assistant will probably be gated, because it is the same subscription and the same apps.
What Apple's intelligence features page says is "available exclusively to Apple Creator Studio subscribers":
| Feature | Where |
|---|---|
| Image Generation | Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Pixelmator Pro, Freeform |
| Shape Generation | Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Pixelmator Pro |
| Super Resolution and Auto Crop | Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Freeform |
| Generate Presentation, Generate Presenter Notes, Slide Clean Up | Keynote |
| Magic Fill | Numbers |
And the caps, which Apple states as a floor rather than a ceiling: "At a minimum per month, if used exclusively, you can: Generate 50 images. Generate 250 shapes. Generate 50 presentations (with approximately 8 to 10 slides each). Generate presenter notes for 700 slides." Limits reset each month, and you can check where you stand: on a Mac, the app menu then Intelligence Features then Show Usage Status; on iPhone or iPad, the More button then the same two items.
Two more things on that page are worth knowing before you type anything confidential into a slide deck. Keynote's Generate Presentation is powered by OpenAI, and image, shape and presenter-note generation are powered by Google Cloud, excluded in Belarus, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, China mainland, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Macau, Montserrat, Russia, the Turks and Caicos Islands and Venezuela. And Apple states the privacy terms plainly: your request goes to the provider with limited context, "your IP address isn't shared," the information "isn't associated with your Apple Account," and "providers aren't allowed to use your information to train their models." You need no OpenAI or Google account, and Apple says these features "do not integrate with personal ChatGPT and Google accounts."
Should You Pay
Pay if you make slides or documents for a living and the $12.99 is a work expense. The pro apps alone cost $299.99, $199.99 and $49.99 to buy outright, so the subscription is the cheap way in if you want Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro too.
Take the free three months if you are buying a Mac or iPad anyway. It costs nothing, it answers the question for you, and you can cancel before it renews.
Do not pay for this if the only AI you want is writing help. A $20 ChatGPT or Claude subscription does more for general writing than a document assistant in Pages, and the free tiers do a lot of it at $0. Our chatbot comparison is the fairer test.
Wait if you are not in the US. US English only, with no published plan for other languages.
Skip it entirely if your device is older than an iPhone 15 Pro or an Apple silicon Mac. The subscription will not unlock an assistant your hardware cannot run.
What Apple Has Not Said
| Open question | What Apple has published |
|---|---|
| Which day in November? | "This November." No date. |
| Any usage limit on the new assistant? | Nothing. The published caps cover the older features only, and Apple's marketing page says only that some AI features "may have usage limits and restrictions." |
| Will the assistant reach languages beyond US English? | Nothing either way. |
| Does the Logic Pro assistant use OpenAI too? | Apple says only "a combination of Apple-built and third-party models" and names none. |
| Will any of this reach the free versions of the apps? | Nothing. Apple's cancellation wording points the other way: after your subscription ends, you keep the apps "but without the intelligence features included in the subscription." |
One quiet detail for anyone watching Apple's AI direction: Apple has told iPhone owners since September that "expanded access" to Apple Intelligence features "will be available for a fee in the future," with no price and no date. In Keynote, Pages and Numbers, that future already arrived, and the fee is $12.99 a month. See what iOS 27's AI features cost you for the free side of that line.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the new AI in Pages, Keynote and Numbers free?
No. Apple says the intelligence features in those apps are for subscribers. The apps themselves stay free and come with every new iPhone, Mac and iPad, but the assistant needs an Apple Creator Studio subscription at $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US.
When can I use the Pages and Keynote assistant?
Apple says the update arrives on the App Store in November 2026 and names no day. It is a free update if you already subscribe to Apple Creator Studio. Apple calls the assistant a beta, so expect it to change after it ships.
What does the Pages, Keynote and Numbers assistant actually do?
Apple says it understands your document. In Keynote it designs, animates and refines slides. In Pages it drafts, restructures and fine-tunes writing. In Numbers it calculates, visualizes and organizes data, recommends chart types with a one-tap preview, and builds tables using world knowledge.
Which devices get the Apple Creator Studio assistant?
Apple's footnote is specific: an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later. That means an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, a recent iPad, or an Apple silicon Mac. It is also US English only at launch.
Does Apple use OpenAI in Pages and Keynote?
Yes. Apple says the assistant in Keynote, Pages and Numbers is built on Apple models and OpenAI. Apple's help page already credits OpenAI for Keynote's Generate Presentation and Google Cloud for image, shape and presenter-note generation, and says you need no account with either.
Are there limits on how much AI I can use?
Yes, and Apple publishes them. For the existing features, a subscriber gets at least 50 images, 250 shapes, 50 generated presentations and presenter notes for 700 slides per month, resetting monthly. Apple has published no limits for the new assistant yet.
What happens to my files if I cancel Apple Creator Studio?
You keep the apps and your documents. Apple says that after your billing period ends you still have access to Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Freeform, but without the intelligence features the subscription unlocks. The pro apps also stay installed with your projects intact.
