iOS 27.2 Explained: Siri AI Now Works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish
Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, and Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English. It is still a beta, still blocked in the EU and China, and still barred to under-13s. Apple's own Siri AI help page has not caught up.

Apple's rebuilt Siri, called Siri AI, shipped on September 14, 2026 as a free beta in iOS 27, on every iPhone from the 15 Pro up. Since October 26, 2026 it works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English. It is still blocked in the EU on iPhone, in China, and under 13.
Which iPhones Get Apple Intelligence (and What You Actually Get)
Apple Intelligence runs on the iPhone 15 Pro and later, including iPhone Air and iPhone Duo; on iPad Pro, Air and mini with M1 or A17 Pro; on Macs with M1 or later; on Apple Vision Pro; and on Apple Watch Series 9 or later paired with a supported iPhone. The standard iPhone 15 and older never get it.
iOS 27 Apple Intelligence Features Explained: What Your iPhone Gets Today, What Waits, and What Has a Daily Limit
iOS 27 shipped free on September 14, 2026. On any iPhone from the 15 Pro up it adds Siri AI, Write with Siri, new Photos editing, a photorealistic Image Playground and Call Context. Siri AI is a waitlisted beta, and iOS 27.2 added five more languages, SynthID labels and Suggestions in Messages on October 26.
iOS 27.1 Explained: It Is Out, It Is iPhone Duo Only, and Apple Published No Feature List
Apple released iOS 27.1 on October 23, 2026 and your iPhone almost certainly cannot install it: Apple states it is for iPhone Duo only. But iOS 27.2 arrived for everyone on October 26, 2026, so that is the update to install now, and it is the one that brought Siri AI's five extra languages.
Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, and the headline change is one that millions of people have been waiting for since September: Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, not just English. Apple's announcement that day puts it plainly: "With the 27.2 software updates released today, Siri AI [...] is expanding to more people around the world."
If you set your iPhone to one of those five languages, update it and the new Siri is yours. Three groups still do not get it: EU residents on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, anyone in China, and anyone under 13.
Key Takeaways
- Five new languages, live today. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, per Apple's October 26, 2026 announcement. Apple promised these "in October" back on September 14 and delivered with five days to spare.
- Four more are promised by December 31. Apple: "Language support for Siri AI will continue to expand, with availability in Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese coming by the end of the year." No day, no version number.
- Siri AI now remembers. Apple's iOS 27.2 release notes say Siri AI "can recall your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week."
- It reads more of your stuff. Siri AI can now draw on "photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List."
- There is a new switch to turn that off, in one place. "Excluded Apps lets you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access, all from one setting."
- Two features Apple had dated "later this year" shipped in this update: SynthID watermarking for AI-generated and AI-edited images in Photos and Image Playground, and Suggestions in Messages.
- Apple's own Siri AI help page still says English only. How to get Siri AI is stamped October 22, 2026 and reads "Siri AI is currently available in English." Read live on October 26, the words
French,Japanese,Korean,PortugueseandSpanisheach return zero on it. - The waitlist is still there. Same page: turning Siri AI on "will add you to a waitlist, and wait times can vary." The update does not skip it.
- Nothing here needs new hardware. Apple's release notes scope the Siri AI items to "All iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max", which is the existing Apple Intelligence list.
Who Is Affected and What To Do
| If you | What to do now |
|---|---|
| Use your iPhone in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish | Update to iOS 27.2, then set your device language and Siri language to the same one and turn on Siri AI in Settings > Siri. Expect a waitlist |
| Already use Siri AI in English | Update. You get the memory, the wider personal context, Excluded Apps and granular text selection |
| Live in the EU | Nothing changes on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Apple still excludes Siri AI there. A Mac or Apple Vision Pro in the EU can run it |
| Live in China | Nothing changes. Apple has still published no date |
| Want Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish or Vietnamese | Wait. Apple says "by the end of the year" and has named no day |
| Have an iPhone 15, 15 Plus or older | Update for the bug fixes if you like, but Siri AI is not coming to your phone in any language |
| Are worried about Siri reading your apps | Update, then open the new Excluded Apps setting and take out whatever you do not want Siri, Search or suggestions touching |
Which Languages Siri AI Speaks Now
Six, as of October 26, 2026. Apple's availability block on the announcement is the definitive list: "It is available in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish."
| Language | Status | Apple's source |
|---|---|---|
| English | Live since September 14, 2026 | Launch post |
| French | Live, October 26, 2026 | October 26 announcement |
| Japanese | Live, October 26, 2026 | October 26 announcement |
| Korean | Live, October 26, 2026 | October 26 announcement |
| Portuguese | Live, October 26, 2026 | October 26 announcement |
| Spanish | Live, October 26, 2026 | October 26 announcement |
| Chinese (traditional) | Promised "by the end of the year" | October 26 announcement |
| Norwegian | Promised "by the end of the year" | October 26 announcement |
| Turkish | Promised "by the end of the year" | October 26 announcement |
| Vietnamese | Promised "by the end of the year" | October 26 announcement |
Two things to know before you change your phone's language. First, Apple requires both your device language and your Siri language to be set to the same supported language, which has been the rule since launch. Second, Apple's full Apple Intelligence language list is wider than the Siri AI list -- sixteen languages, including German, Italian and Danish -- so Apple Intelligence working in your language does not mean Siri AI does. Our iPhone compatibility guide has both lists.
Apple's Own Pages Disagree With Each Other Today
This is worth knowing because it will send people in circles. Apple updated some of its surfaces for this release and not others, and two of the ones it skipped are the pages a careful person would go and check.
| Apple page | What it says about Siri AI's languages, read live October 26, 2026 | Apple's date on it |
|---|---|---|
| October 26 announcement | "available in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish" | October 26, 2026 |
| About iOS 27 Updates | "Siri AI is available in more languages, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish" | October 26, 2026 |
| apple.com/apple-intelligence footnote | "Available in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish to start" | Undated page, changed today |
| How to get Siri AI | "Siri AI is currently available in English" | October 22, 2026, not updated |
| apple.com/ios/feature-availability | The Siri AI, Write with Siri, Visual Intelligence and Siri Mode in Camera rows all still read "Available in English" | Undated page, not updated |
Trust the dated documents. The announcement and the release notes both carry today's date and both name the five languages. The two pages that still say English are the two Apple did not touch, and one of them has an October 22 stamp that predates the release. This is the normal shape of an Apple rollout: the newsroom and the release notes move first, the support pages and the feature matrix follow later.
One more mismatch, in the other direction: Apple's own marketing page still says Suggestions in Messages is in the future, carrying the line "Suggestions in Messages conversations coming in a future software update" on October 26, while the iOS 27.2 release notes list the feature as shipped. The release notes are the newer document.
What Else Is in iOS 27.2
Apple's release notes list these, scoped to Apple Intelligence iPhones for the Siri items and to everyone for the rest. The Siri changes are the substantial ones: this update makes Siri AI remember, and widens what it is allowed to look at.
Siri AI (all iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max):
- Memory across conversations. "Siri AI can recall your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week."
- More personal context. Siri can now draw on "photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List."
- Excluded Apps. One setting that "lets you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access."
- Granular text selection. You can "select and copy just the part of a Siri response you need," instead of the whole answer.
Everything else:
- Suggestions in Messages, which "help you take action based on the context of your conversations, like adding a Calendar invite for a dinner."
- SynthID watermarking support "to help identify whether an image was generated or modified with generative tools in Photos and Image Playground." This is the AI-labelling Apple had dated "a software update later this year"; it is here. Our SynthID Detector page covers the free tool that reads these labels.
- Shared Albums in Photos can edit captions and comments, avoid duplicate photos, and remind you before an album expires.
- The Podcasts Home tab splits into New Episodes and Continue Playing.
- A Friends tab in the Games app, with recent games on friends' player pages.
- Simple Profiles in the Apple TV app, so each person in a household gets their own recommendations.
- FaceTime supports adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
What Has Not Changed
The three exclusions are all still in force, and Apple restated each of them in today's announcement rather than quietly dropping any.
| Who is still locked out | Apple's wording today |
|---|---|
| EU residents on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch | "Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. Apple is working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward" |
| Anyone in China | The release notes say "Siri AI is not available in the EU or mainland China" |
| Anyone under 13 | "Siri AI is not available for users under 13" |
The fee is still coming and still unpriced. Today's announcement repeats the line that has been on every Siri AI document since September 9: server-side features "are subject to daily usage limits," and "expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future." No price, no limit figure, no date. Our Siri AI explainer has the full paper trail on that.
It is still a beta. Apple's own wording: "Siri AI is available in beta in iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2."
And the device floor has not moved. iPhone 15 Pro and later for the Pro models, every iPhone 16 and newer, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo. A standard iPhone 15 or anything older gets none of this. If that is your phone and you want a capable assistant today, the free chatbots run in a browser on any iPhone.
Should You Install It
Yes, if you use one of the five new languages. This is the whole point of the release for you, and there is no version of waiting that gets you a better outcome.
Yes, if you already use Siri AI in English. The memory and the wider personal context are real improvements to a feature you are already using, and Excluded Apps gives you a control you did not have.
Yes, but for different reasons, if you do not use Siri AI at all. The Photos, Podcasts, Apple TV and FaceTime changes are ordinary useful, and the release includes bug fixes and security updates.
Check Excluded Apps either way. This release widened what Siri AI can read, to include voicemails and Safari Reading List, in the same update that gives you one screen to switch apps off. If the first part bothers you, the second part is where you go.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Siri AI available in Spanish now?
Yes, from October 26, 2026. Apple's announcement that day says Siri AI is available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish with the 27.2 updates. Set both your device language and your Siri language to the same one, then update to iOS 27.2.
What is new in iOS 27.2?
Siri AI in five more languages, Siri AI remembering your past conversations, Siri drawing on voicemails and Calendar attendees, an Excluded Apps setting, Suggestions in Messages, SynthID labels on AI-edited photos, and smaller changes to Photos, Podcasts, Apple TV and FaceTime.
Which iPhones get the new Siri AI languages?
The same ones that already get Siri AI. Apple's release notes name all iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15 and anything older never gets Siri AI, in any language.
Can I get Siri AI in French if I live in the EU?
Not on an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Apple's October 26 announcement still says Siri AI is unavailable in the EU on those systems and that it is working with regulators. An EU Mac or Apple Vision Pro can run it in a supported language.
Why does Apple's Siri AI page still say English only?
Because Apple has not updated it. Its How to get Siri AI support page was last stamped October 22, 2026 and still reads that Siri AI is currently available in English. The October 26 announcement and the iOS 27.2 release notes are the current documents.
Are more Siri AI languages coming?
Apple says four more by the end of 2026: Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese. That is the wording in its October 26, 2026 announcement. Apple has not given a day, a version number, or any language beyond those four.
Do I have to join a waitlist for Siri AI?
Yes, and Apple has not removed that step. Its support page still says that turning on Siri AI adds you to a waitlist and that wait times vary. Installing iOS 27.2 does not skip it, whichever language you use.
Is iOS 27.2 free?
Yes. Every iOS update is free and so is Siri AI today. Apple does say server-side Apple Intelligence features carry daily usage limits and that expanded access will cost a fee in future, but it has published no price and no date.
